Integrating Cocoa Nibs Into a Healthy Lifestyle
For those of you who have yet to experience the delicious, chocolatey goodness that is the cocoa nib, it’s never too late! Especially these days in which we are seeing the nib used in exciting sweet and savoury culinary dishes or at your favourite smoothie bar. Cocoa nibs are small pieces of crushed cocoa beans. The beans are derived from the THEOBROMA CACAO TREE, also known as the cocoa tree. At JACEK, our beans are sourced from Costa Rica, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. Our beans are dried after harvesting, then fermented and cracked to produce small, dark bits. Tada- nibs!
These chocolatey nibs are loaded with nutrients and have been shown to benefit health in many ways! Nibs are naturally lower in sugar than other chocolate products, making them a healthier choice. They contain many minerals, which are necessary for healthy bones and for producing red blood cells. They are a good source of fibre, protein and healthy fats.
Cocoa nibs are also loaded with antioxidants. Thirty times the amount than blueberries! Due to their powerful antioxidant content, cocoa nibs have been linked to many health benefits: They can help with inflammation, give your immune system a boost, help with blood sugar control, and are heart smart!
Cocoa beans contain the stimulants caffeine and theobromine, so one should keep in mind that children and pregnant or breast feeding women are more vulnerable to the effects of stimulants like caffeine.
