Fall, when we transition from summer to winter. Autumn is a time for curling on the couch under a throw with a good book and a bottle of wine. Lite the candles, nibble on a JACEK Bean-to-Bar, and settle in for the evening.
JACEK Bean-to-Bar, Dominican Republic – The bean-to-bar chocolates have been made using ethically sourced cocoa beans that have been sorted, roasted, winnowed and refined by JACEK Chocolate in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Look for flavours of mocha, port wine, dried fig and dried raisin.
Castillo de Monséran Old Vine Garnacha 2010, Spain – grape(s) 100% Garnacha. There are great value wines coming from Spain, and this Old Vine Garnacha from Castillo de Monséran is a one. 50 year old vines, are low yielding producing rich, flavourful, dense fruit that is aged for twelve months in French Oak making a smooth velvety wine. An aromatic nose with black cherry, raspberry, dried violet, savoury, licorice, leather and mocha. The palate is rich, lovely mouth feel that is dry with berries, spice, vanilla and mocha flavours.
Together – These two pair complement each other, neither is too rich nor too sweet, with mocha and fruit flavours. I find the JACEK Fabric really wonderful to work with, clean, pure flavour without sweetness to balance. There will be more pairings with the Bean-To-Bar collection, until then enjoy an evening with a great book, a bottle of Castillo Garnacha, and a bar of Dominican Republic.
Normally this is where I would include serving suggestions. For this pairing, I am enjoying them simply together while I read my book curled on the couch. Proof positive that Joy is often found in the simple things in life: a bar, a book and a bottle.
