Recipe: BBQ Sauce

During the spring and summer months, barbeque sauce turns into a staple item for most households. So, we decide to create a spicy and smoky sauce that contains our favourite ingredient…chocolate! This barbeque sauce is perfect on steak, pork (it’s an AMAZING pulled pork sauce), and even grilled veggies.

Chocolate BBQ Sauce

Ingredients:
-5.5 ounce can tomato paste
-1/2 tbsp coconut oil (olive or vegetable works too)
-1/3 cup diced onion
-1 clove of garlic minced
-1/2 cup water
-3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-2 tbsp soy sauce
– 1 tsp chili powder
– 2 tsp smoked paprika
– 12 callets roughly chopped of Valrhona Manjari
– 1/4 tsp ground black pepper

Mix all ingredients in a pot on the stove over medium heat stirring constantly. Once sauce starts to bubble, cover pot and lower heat to low. Let the sauce simmer for 25-30 minutes so the flavours come together. After the 30 minutes, the onions will be softened, however if you’re wanting a smoother sauce, blend in the blender until smooth. Store in fridge, in an air tight container, up to 5 days. This recipe makes approximately 1 1/4 cup of sauce.

Enjoy!
